Licensing & insurance

Dune Buggy Dubai operates under a Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DTCM) tourism permit and a Roads and Transport Authority commercial transport licence for pickup vehicles. Every customer ride is covered by a liability and medical insurance policy underwritten by a UAE-approved insurer. Coverage includes emergency evacuation, medical treatment up to AED 500,000 per rider, and public liability for group activities.

Your booking receipt serves as proof of coverage and should be kept on your phone for the duration of the tour. If you want extended personal accident cover on top of the included liability insurance, our desk can add it at checkout for AED 49 per rider.

The 12-point pre-ride check

Every buggy is logged and checked before every convoy — not once a day, not once a week. The log sheet is initialled by the lead mechanic and kept on file for 90 days. Here is what we verify before a single rider touches the wheel.

1 · Roll cage integrity

Welds inspected for hairline cracks, bolts torqued.

2 · Four-point harness

Straps checked for fraying, buckles tested under load.

3 · Tyre pressure & tread

Dropped to 12–14 PSI for dune traction, walls inspected.

4 · Brake fluid & pedal feel

Reservoir topped, pedal pumped for firmness.

5 · Steering play

Wheel shake-test for tie-rod looseness.

6 · Fuel level & lines

Tank filled, lines visually inspected for leaks.

7 · Engine oil & coolant

Dipstick reading and radiator level checked.

8 · Lights & horn

Headlights, tail lights, brake light, horn verified.

9 · Side nets & doors

Latches tested, netting checked for tears.

10 · Kill switch & ignition

Emergency kill switch tested live.

11 · GPS tracker live

Every buggy streams location to base in real time.

12 · Radio comms check

Guide-to-base handheld test on desert frequency.

Built for rollover protection

Vehicle

Can-Am Maverick & Polaris RZR

Both models are certified by the US Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association (ROHVA) for side-by-side safety standards. Tubular steel roll cages are independently welded and tested to withstand a full inversion load. Our fleet is replaced on a 24-month rotation so no buggy ever exceeds prime operating life.

Rider protection

Four-point harness + side nets

Four-point harnesses hold shoulders and hips in the seat, so even during sharp turns or dune tips the rider stays centred. Side nets prevent limbs from exiting the cockpit. We do not use simple lap belts — every seat has a proper racing-grade harness sized to the rider, not one-size-fits-all.

Medical & emergency response

Every convoy leaves the basecamp with a dedicated rescue 4x4 following behind — not in front, not in the middle — so it can reach any vehicle in the convoy within 90 seconds. The rescue vehicle carries a Red Cross-approved trauma kit, spare fuel, a tow rope, emergency water, a satellite phone and a trained first-aider. Our guides rotate through a DHA-accredited basic life support course every 12 months.

  • Satellite phone coverage in every dead-zone
  • Direct-line hospital priority access via DHA tourism tier
  • Air ambulance on standby for remote zones (Margham, Fossil Rock)
  • Every rider's medical notes logged confidentially at check-in
  • Nearest hospital 22 minutes from Lahbab, 28 minutes from Fossil Rock

Your safety briefing — 7 minutes

  1. Walk-around (1 min): Guide shows the roll cage, harness, controls and kill switch.
  2. Controls (1 min): Throttle, brake, steering and reverse — tested from the driver seat.
  3. Harness fitting (1 min): Four-point buckle, strap tensioning, release drill.
  4. Hand signals (1 min): Stop, slow down, help — no-radio signals every rider learns.
  5. Practice loop (2 min): Flat straight + gentle turn on the basecamp pad.
  6. First dune (1 min): Supervised small dune before the guide leads the convoy out.

Safety FAQs

Are dune buggy tours in Dubai safe?+

Yes. Every buggy has a tubular roll cage, four-point harness, side nets, a DTCM-certified guide, a rescue vehicle on standby, and a 12-point pre-ride inspection. We have operated over 180,000 rides without a single serious injury.

What happens if I flip the buggy?+

The roll cage and harness are engineered exactly for this. A flip on a dune at the speeds we operate typically results in the buggy tipping onto its side, the rider strapped in safely, and the guide reaching you within 90 seconds to right the vehicle. It is rare and almost always caused by riders ignoring instructions.

Do you have a rescue plan for remote zones?+

Yes. The Margham and Fossil Rock zones are 30+ km from the nearest tarmac road, so we pre-position a secondary rescue 4x4 at the nearest paved waypoint and maintain an air-ambulance agreement with a DHA provider for worst-case scenarios.

What about kids — is it safe for an 8-year-old?+

Yes, for guided tours. Children aged 8 to 15 ride as passengers next to our certified guide, wear child-sized helmets and harnesses, and the guide chooses a gentler line through the dunes. Parents can follow in a second buggy and watch the whole ride.
