What a Dubai camel ride really is

A camel ride in Dubai is a led dromedary walk across a marked sand loop at a traditional Bedouin camp. The camel is led by a handler on foot — you don't steer. This makes it safe for every age, from a 3-year-old riding in a parent's lap to a grandparent on their first desert visit. It is the oldest form of desert transport in Arabia, and riding one is how most people first connect with the culture.

From AED 150 for a 15-minute photo ride, with longer sunset, henna, 60-min deluxe formats available on request — quote on WhatsApp.

Why everyone can do it

👶

No age minimum

Kids from 3 years sit with a parent. No upper age limit either.

🦯

No balance skills

The handler leads the camel on foot — you never steer.

Camels are not overworked — each carries max 2 riders per half-day.

Bedouin handlers

Real handlers from local Bedouin families who grew up with the animals.

🌿

Clean stables

Shade, fresh water, fresh straw. Ask to see the stable — we're happy to show.

Frequently asked

Is camel riding safe?+

Yes — because the handler leads the camel on foot, there's no skill required. Injury risk is near zero when you follow the saddle-on instructions.

How old do you have to be to ride a camel?+

No minimum age for led rides. Children from 3 can sit in a parent's lap; the handler walks extra slowly.

Is camel riding ethical?+

It depends on the operator. We only run with Bedouin-family stables that rotate their camels, don't overload them, and give them shade, water and rest breaks. We're happy to show you the stable before booking.

Does the camel bite or spit?+

Trained desert camels rarely do either. The handler knows each animal and will warn you if one is having a bad day — we'll swap camels.

How uncomfortable is it really?+

The first 30 seconds of getting up and sitting down is the weirdest — the camel rises back-legs-first. After that, the walking pace is gentle and most guests relax quickly.

Can I ride a camel without going on a safari?+

Yes — we offer standalone camel rides at our partner camp. No safari needed, no 4WD. Just a short transfer from your Dubai hotel.
