What is the Yamaha Quad Bike?

The Yamaha Quad is the step-up ATV in our Al Wadi fleet — one rider, four fat tires, automatic CVT and a 400cc petrol engine under the seat. Yamaha (a Taiwanese manufacturer) builds some of the most reliable recreational quads in the world, which is why we put it on the open deep desert route and not the fenced beginner loop. The thumb-throttle and hand-lever brakes are the same as the COBRA — the difference is the terrain under you.

A lead guide rides ahead on a Raptor and picks the safe line through soft sand, avoids hidden drops and sets the group speed to match the least experienced rider. You ride the guide's tracks, crest real dunes, stop for photos and — unlike the fenced track — actually get to feel the desert open up in every direction. No driving license is required because you are on private desert land, but we lift the minimum age to 16 for this route.

Price is per rider: available on request (30 min), on request (1 hr), on request (2 hr). Everything you need is bundled: helmet, goggles, fuel, briefing, lead guide and Ras Al Khaimah hotel pickup. Ready for more power? The Yamaha Raptor or Raptor Manual 700 CC is the next rung up.

Safety First

Open Desert, Guided Line, Zero Guesswork

The Yamaha is operated under the Dubai Department of Economy & Tourism (DTCM) licensing framework. Every unit is inspected before each session. Out on the open desert your safety net is the lead guide — they know every soft pocket, every hidden crest, every exit route — so you never point the quad at something you can't see the other side of.

Helmets and anti-sand goggles are mandatory. The group rides in a spaced convoy — far enough apart that nobody clips the rider ahead, close enough that the sweep guide at the back can see everyone. If anything feels wrong you raise your hand — the group stops, no questions. Most first-timers come off smiling and ask about upgrading to the Raptor next time.

What To Wear

  • 👕 Light, breathable long-sleeve top (blocks sun and kicked sand)
  • 👖 Long trousers or jeans (not shorts — sand at speed stings bare legs)
  • 👟 Closed shoes — sneakers or trainers. No sandals.
  • 🕶️ Sunglasses for the drive out (we also provide goggles)
  • 🧴 Sunscreen SPF 30+
  • 🧣 Light buff or scarf for nose/mouth in windy conditions
  • 💧 Small water bottle (we also provide one)
  • 📸 Phone in a zip pocket or strap (no selfie sticks during the ride)

What is the difference between the Yamaha and the COBRA quad?+
COBRA rides the fenced beginner track with on-track supervision — min age 14. Yamaha rides the open Al Wadi dunes in a guided convoy — min age 16. Same automatic CVT, same no-license rule. Yamaha is the natural step up once you feel ready.
Do I need a driving license for the Yamaha?+
No. Quad riding at Al Wadi is off-road recreation on private desert land. No license required. Minimum age 16. All riders get a 10-minute safety briefing before convoy departure.
Is the Yamaha automatic or manual?+
Automatic CVT. No clutch, no gear shift. Thumb-lever throttle on the right handlebar, hand-lever brakes. Easier to learn than a motorbike — anyone comfortable on a bicycle can manage it in 10 minutes.
How does the guided convoy work?+
