Where the Tours Actually Run

Dubai Desert Areas

Lahbab, Al Qudra and Bidayer — three very different Dubai desert zones with three different feels. Pick the right one.

There are three desert zones around Dubai — they're very different

When a Dubai tour company says "desert safari" they don't all mean the same place. Dubai's tours run in three distinct zones: the Lahbab red dunes (30 min from Marina, the classic safari spot), the Al Qudra / DDCR conservation reserve (quieter, wildlife focus, restricted access) and Bidayer / Big Red (closer but flatter, good for short buggy rides). Each has different terrain, different vibe, and different permits.

This guide explains what you actually find at each zone so you can pick the right tour. Below are the three detailed area guides.

Frequently asked

Which zone do your tours actually run in?+

Most of our evening safaris and buggy tours run in Lahbab (red dunes). Our premium / DDCR tours run in the Al Qudra reserve under a separate permit. Our short buggy sessions and family tours can run at Bidayer depending on demand.

Can I choose the area?+

Yes — tell us your preference on WhatsApp. We'll confirm which tour goes to which zone. Some routes are fixed (e.g., DDCR requires a reserve permit); others are flexible.

Is Big Red the same as Bidayer?+

Yes — 'Big Red' is the colloquial name for the tall red dune at Bidayer, used by many locals for weekend off-roading. It's about 45 minutes from Marina.

Does the DDCR allow dune buggies?+

No — the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve only permits guided wildlife tours and premium camp experiences. Motorised dune bashing and buggies are not allowed inside the DDCR. Buggies run at Lahbab or Bidayer instead.
